I did try a demo of the new Catalyst edit product, and it is a clean and simple interface. Part of the goal here was to create a touch friendly interface. The demo however lacked many of the capabilities of Vegas Pro. It also appears they are moving towards more of a Premiere Pro functionality. Not exactly a plus in my book. I gladly went back to Vegas Pro after trying the demo a couple of months back. The interface was actually quite good, and was an improvement on Vegas in a number of ways. Unfortunately, there were some very important things missing. Most notably, the audio processing capabilities that set Vegas apart from the rest of the field. Probably the most important aspect of Vegas in my view, and what keeps me using it. It may also keep me from switching to Catalyst, unless Sony addresses this that is.
Recently, I ran across the video below. It was the comment section that caught my eye. Someone claims to have spoken to a Sony rep, who claims there will be no new versions of Vegas released. You can read the forum thread here.
