Episode Seven of A Pixelriffic Podcast

In episode seven, I rattle on a bit about desktop editing PC solutions. Yes I know, lots of you out there use a Mac, and it's a great platform. Unfortunately, they're expensive, and if you're on a tighter budget, a Windows machine might just be the way to go.

You are doing a wonderful job. This is my favorite Podcast. My wife and I are expecting a little girl in july and I have just recently been bitten by the editing bug. With the little one on the way I have equipped myself with a DV camera and a G5. This has been a wonderful resource. Thank you.

Hi Nick,

Your comments are very much appreciated. I'm glad this lil' podcast can be some help to you, and congratulations on your expected new addition to the family!

By the way, I too was born in July, but no, it wasn't on the forth. :-)

I don't want to get into some platform wars disucssion that grows long and bring very, very fast but...

There is no cost savings to buying a PC instead of a Mac for video editing and production. That's a myth, plain and simple. If you are only looking at the price of hardware in flyers and ads, you are not loking at the real costs or only a portion of the costs through to final output.

We plotted and pondered over these numbers again and again and there is no way you can add them up at any price point (beginner, intermediate, and pro level production) the Mac is cheaper.

I certainly don't want to offend the Mac users out there. It's an outstanding platform, and while nothing is perfect, it's true that "they just work" as Steve likes to say.

Or something like that.

Exectuve does bring one point to mind, when you factor in some of the security vulnerabilities of Windows, it could actually end up costing more. Turn on auto update, use good quality AV software, and definitely get a real firewall.

I do think there's no question that that OSX has a much nicer interface than XP. As a long time Unix guy, I definitely envy the BSD core.
